What Is Link Building in SEO?

Link building is the big mystery of SEO while remaining one of the most critical parts of an SEO campaign. Without quality and relevant backlinks pointing to your website, you will struggle to gain rankings.

If you are not familiar with backlinks, essentially they are links on other websites pointing to your website. Link building consists of getting those external websites linking to important pages on your website.

Why is Link Building Important for SEO?

Because Google basically counts links as votes. The better the quality and relevance to your industry your backlinks are, the more those votes/links will improve the authority and relevance to your keywords.

Therefore, in theory, the more high quality and relevant links you have pointing to your website, the higher your website should rank in organic search.

Other Link Building Factors

Keep in mind, link building is not the only important part of an SEO campaign. Fast loading times, title tags, and high quality unique content are just as important. But quality links can help “move the needle”.

How I Can Help Building Links for SEO

From what I know about many SEO companies that offer link building services, the link building process can be a sketchy area.

They might be afraid to share links they have gotten. They may be afraid to explain why they got a specific backlink.

They might hide links they have acquired. Or they might not get any links at all.

Some companies still use link building tactics that don’t even work anymore and can get websites penalized in Google and other search engines. And it can be a very long and difficult process to get out of a Google link penalty.

I had a co-worker that said his old SEO company used to create profiles on Slideshare and include a link in the profile to client websites and that was their link building process.

That’s not going to do much for SEO.

Expert Link Building Experience

SEO used to be easy. All you had to do was go to any website where you could get a link and submit your website with your keywords as the anchor text (i.e. this is anchor text of a link).

If you got a lot of links from any random websites enough times with your keywords in the link to your homepage, you would rank high in Google search results.

But Google is smart.

They rolled out a huge update in 2012 called Penguin. This targeted websites that were trying to game the system with overly-optimized anchor text links. More info about Penguin here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Penguin

With that said, I have experienced every Google Penguin update from the beginning. I understand what Google targets because I was doing those link building practices at the time just like everyone else because it was so easy.

But now the best way to approach link building is make sure links are built and are picked up by Google naturally. I can do that for you.

Demystify Link Building

If you choose to work with me, I would like to help demystify the link building process. I don’t mind sending you the links I would build and explaining a little about why I got it.

The process that I like to do is spread out the types of links acquired so the overall link profile is very natural.

Some links might be on generic websites, some links would be on quality business listing websites (websites similar to Yellow Pages), and some links would be within content on highly relevant websites.
